Beach Lilies Across the outer rim of Santorini the beaches are rimmed with lilies growing in the arid sand. These plants are a protected species, and produce a vibrant white flower. The lilies in the wall paintings of Akrotiri are thought be the same plants. These particular lilies were found among a large group at the edge of the road near one of the beaches on the north eastern part of the island.  Copyright 2009, J. S.
