Santorini from Space

This satellite view of Santorini is published by NASA. The island was once approximately round, and during the caldera explosion the central part of the island disappeared. The resulting tsunami is thought to have devastated the Minoan civilization on Crete. Interestingly, the excavations on Santorini island show that the citizens had substantial warning as they left very little behind during their exodus.
